XRPL was chosen as the optimal platform by RippleX after a two-stage evaluation of numerous virtual machines (VMs), including EVM, Soroban, and Move. RippleX Dev Proposes, A combination of WASM’s adaptability, security, and architecture compatibility led to its selection by the team.

WebAssembly (WASM) is a tool developers on RippleX have proposed using for XRP Ledger (XRPL) smart contracts. This would greatly improve the system’s programmability. The RippleX Programmability team is taking a bold step that will transform the game for developers using XRPL in response to the growing need for powerful on-chain and permissionless solutions.

    RippleX Programmability Solutions for XRPL

After a comprehensive two-stage analysis, the RippleX team settled on the optimal system. The first step was to find all the potential virtual machines in the cryptocurrency ecosystem and select the best ones. As part of the second, more thorough technical evaluation, we tested the compatibility and performance of the chosen VMs by integrating them into the XRPL software.

For this evaluation, we examined how well the chosen VM met several important criteria. According to our news story, the main goals were to create a permissionless system, make it work seamlessly with XRPL’s design, have native features, have high performance, and make validators as cheap as possible.

RippleX tested various smart contract frameworks, including TON, RISC-V, Stellar (Soroban), Solana, EVM, and Hooks. RippleX Dev Proposes: Given XRPL’s unique account-based model and other technical considerations, these were seriously considered.

    Smart Contracts with XRPL

One notable existing XRPL system was Hooks, which was built to work with the ledger’s native architecture. The ecosystem did not fully embrace it, though. The blockchain industry has also shown great support for EVM, or the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Despite its mature tooling and widespread use, EVM was not as practical due to the required work to adapt it to the XRPL structure. Their respective smart contract systems, Soroban and XRPL, were designed similarly by Stellar.

Its inability to access native features and its slow ecosystem adoption stymied further development. Known for its memory-safe, parallel execution capabilities, Move is an Aptos product. It almost caught on, but it could not do so due to issues with integrating XRP Ledger features into its framework and reliance on Aptos libraries. Solana, TON, NEAR, and BitVM were among the alternatives that were either incompatible with XRPL’s model or had extremely high integration hurdles.

    Why WASM Stands Out

WebAssembly (WASM) was the most likely option because of its adaptability, safety, and capacity for smooth integration. As WASM is a general-purpose VM, it may handle multiple programming languages, making it easier for developers to become acquainted with. It should be noted that Polkadot and Cosmos are already using WASM; therefore, the road map for integration in RippleX will be considerably flatter.

    RippleX Programmability Solutions for XRPL

There was promise in the early WASM-based RippleX prototypes. Ability to perform smart contract transactions while interacting. With the real-time XRP ledger state. However, for the WASM code to work on XRPL, it needs to be modified to accommodate the platform’s unique features. Which may include changes to storage interfaces and gas mechanisms. Additionally, future updates are anticipated to include additional requirements and advancements.

The XRP price of Ripple saw a surge of more than 10% today thanks to these encouraging developments. The price of XRP has made a full recovery as of this writing. Being traded at $3.10, an increase of 11.25% during the past 24 hours. Additional evidence of increased investor interest and market activity is the 6.85% increase in trading volume to $11.08 billion. We also noted in our last news item that investors are on edge because of rumors. That the US has XRP reserves.
